Prior to this, they founded Fair.com, a company that aims to disrupt the car-buying process. Scott Painter also co-founded and served as a board member of BrightHouse, Inc., an incubator company in Southern California. Scott was the Co-Founder of Pricelock, an innovative company providing protection from rising gas prices. Scott Painter founded TrueCar, Inc., an online automotive marketplace. Scott also founded Build-to-Order, a car company that focused on outsourcing engineering and manufacturing while retaining brand, design, and distribution in-house. Additionally, they co-founded Direct Ventures, a company focused on financing and developing new ventures. Scott Painter founded and chaired Advertise.com, which offered media planning, assessment, and creative and media buying services. Scott was the Founder and CEO of CarsDirect.com, a rapidly growing company in the automotive industry. Lastly, they founded and served as the CEO of Vision Incorporated.
Scott Painter attended the University of California, Berkeley from 1991 to 1993, where they studied Economics. Before that, from 1989 to 1991, they attended the United States Military Academy at West Point, focusing on Political Science and Systems Engineering. In 1988, they briefly attended the Dept. of Defense Language Institute to study Spanish. No degrees were specified for any of these educational experiences.
