George Sun

George Sun has a diverse work experience. George is currently the Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of Nextiles since February 2020 and previously served as the Chief Technology Officer (CTO) and Founder of the company since April 2018. At Nextiles, they played a vital role in developing fabric-based technologies that integrate motion-sensitive technologies into clothing.

Before joining Nextiles, George was an I-Corps Member at the National Science Foundation (NSF) starting from March 2018. Prior to that, they were a PHD Researcher at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) working under Professor Angela M. Belcher from September 2014 to June 2019. During their time at MIT, they focused on researching and developing innovative technologies.

George also worked as an Embedded Electronics Engineer at MIT Design Lab from February 2017 to January 2018. In this role, they collaborated with Puma to integrate embedded electronics and flexible circuitry into insoles for smart shoe applications in fashion and sports.

Earlier in their career, George was a Researcher at UC Berkeley College of Engineering from September 2011 to May 2014 and an Amgen Scholar at Columbia University in the City of New York from May 2013 to August 2013.

George Sun holds a Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) degree in Bioengineering and Biomedical Engineering from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology, which they obtained from 2014 to 2019. Prior to that, they completed their Bachelor of Engineering (BE) degree in Electrical Engineering & Computer Science and Bioengineering from the UC Berkeley College of Engineering from 2010 to 2014. In addition to their formal education, George Sun has also obtained several certifications, including "Fusion 360: 3D Printed Product Enclosure," "Advanced C Programming," "Learning Grasshopper," and "Rhino 5 Essential Training" from Lynda.com in 2018.
