John Casey

Professor John J. Casey MB ChB, PhD, FRCS(Glasg, FRCS(Ed), FRCS(Gen Surg), FRCP Edin) is a Consultant Transplant Surgeon at the Royal Infirmary of Edinburgh and an Honorary Professor at the University of Edinburgh. They have served as an NHS multi-organ transplant surgeon since 2013 and play a pivotal role in providing organ transplantation services across Scotland. Currently, they hold multiple positions including Deputy Medical Director for Organ and Tissue Donation and Transplantation at NHSBT and Director of the Scottish National Islet Transplant Service. With a strong research focus on islet transplantation and immunology, they collaborate with institutions like Strathclyde University and Cambridge University on advanced bioprinting techniques. Professor Casey has significantly contributed to the establishment of various transplantation programs and continues to advance laparoscopic surgery practices.
