Louise Downs is a medical doctor with extensive experience in infectious diseases and microbiology. Currently employed at KEMRI - Wellcome Trust from August 2022 to July 2025, Louise is also pursuing a DPhil at the University of Oxford, focusing on hepatitis B virus infection and conducting clinical studies in the Kilifi population. Previously, Louise worked as an NIHR Academic Clinical Fellow in Infectious Diseases and Microbiology at the NHS from August 2014 to November 2019, where research on biomarkers and risk stratification for hepatitis B virus was initiated. Additional training includes roles as a Foundation Doctor, Higher Specialist Trainee in Infectious Diseases and Microbiology, and Core Medical Trainee, with a solid background in managing a variety of tropical and complex infections.
