Michael Firman is a Senior Staff Research Scientist at Niantic, Inc. since June 2018, following the acquisition of Matrix Mill Ltd, where Michael served as Co-Founder from April 2017 to April 2018. Prior to this, Michael was a Research Associate at University College London (UCL) from November 2014 to April 2017, and completed a Research Internship at the National Institute of Informatics in Japan in February 2012. Earlier experiences include Research Internships at Arup and a role as a Structural Engineer during a Year in Industry at Arup from September 2006 to August 2007. Michael holds a Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) in Computer Vision and Machine Learning from UCL and a Master of Engineering (MEng) in Engineering Design from the University of Bristol.
