Craig Butt

National Data Editor, The Age And The Sydney Morning Herald

Craig Butt is a seasoned journalist and educator, currently serving as the National Data Editor for The Age and The Sydney Morning Herald since October 2021, and as the Data Journalism Subject Coordinator at the University of Melbourne since July 2012. With a strong foundation in data journalism, Butt has developed and taught a pioneering course in data journalism since 2013. Butt's career includes roles as a data journalist and health reporter at The Age, and as a digital producer at the Melbourne Press Club. Butt co-founded the student journalism website News Hit while studying at Monash University, where a Bachelor of Arts in Journalism and English Literature was earned. Additional experience includes being a member of the Advisory Board at the Centre for Advancing Journalism and involvement in various internships and projects that highlight commitment to journalistic excellence.
