Deborah Hersman

Deborah Hersman has extensive experience in safety advocacy and transportation leadership. Currently serving as a board member at ONE Gas and NiSource, Hersman previously held board positions at Velodyne Lidar, Inc. and served as Chief Safety Officer at Waymo. As President and CEO of the National Safety Council from 2014 to 2019, Hersman led efforts to eliminate preventable deaths in various environments. Hersman also held the role of Chairman at the National Transportation Safety Board from 2004 to 2014, cementing a reputation in accident investigation. Earlier career highlights include legislative work as Senior Professional Staff for the U.S. Senate Committee on Commerce, Science and Transportation and as DC Staff Director for U.S. House Representative Bob Wise.
