Smitha Thomas has extensive experience in transmission operations planning, currently serving as the Leader Transmission Operations Planning at NiSource since November 2016, following roles as Transmission Resource Engineer and Real Time Operations Engineer. Prior to NiSource, Smitha worked with Dubai Electricity & Water Authority (DEWA) from August 2007 to June 2016 as Engineer-Transmission Operations Planning and Assistant Engineer-Transmission Operations Planning, focusing on equipment and line outage planning, scheduling, and reliability analysis of the transmission network. Smitha began career as an Assistant Engineer at Karnataka Power Transmission Corporation, specializing in maintenance at a state transmission utility’s receiving station. Smitha holds a Bachelor of Technology in Electrical and Electronics Engineering from Mahatma Gandhi University, with earlier studies completed at MA College of Engineering, Kerala.
