Frank Schmitz

Frank Schmitz is an accomplished scientist with extensive experience in immunology, medical microbiology, and virology. Currently serving as an Affiliate Investigator CRD and Director of Translational and Molecular Medicine at Fred Hutch since July 2019, Schmitz also provides expertise as a Scientific Advisor for NLPCore and holds a position as a Privatdozent at Technische Universität München. With previous roles including Principal Scientist at Celgene and Senior Scientist at Seattle Biomedical Research Institute, Schmitz has led research on autophagy, TLR signaling, and development of computational biology tools. A board-certified specialist in Medical Microbiology in Germany, Schmitz has an extensive educational background with multiple degrees from Technical University of Munich and Johannes Gutenberg University Mainz, including a PhD in Hematology and Cancer Immunology.
