Simen Berger Øby has a diverse background in investment and advisory roles. Simen Berger started their career as a Scientific Assistant in Economics at the Norwegian School of Economics in 2009. From 2010 to 2012, they worked as a Consultant at McKinsey & Company. Simen Berger then joined Stortinget, the Norwegian Parliament, as an Advisor on Business and Industry from 2012 to 2013. In 2014, they became an Investment Director at Scandza AS, where they worked until 2019. During this time, they were responsible for investments and played a key role in deal origination, due diligence, and ownership. In the same year, they joined Norfund as an Investment Director, where they led investments in agribusiness and manufacturing in sub-Saharan Africa. In this role, they invested around 200mUSD across various sectors and was involved in consortium deals with international institutional investors. Simen Berger'sresponsibilities also included serving on boards and advisory committees, leading multidisciplinary teams, and providing coaching and advice.

Simen Berger Øby completed their Bachelor of Science degree in Economics and Business Administration at the Norwegian School of Economics (NHH) from 2007 to 2010. Simen Berger then pursued a Master of Science in Management Studies at the MIT Sloan School of Management from 2013 to 2014. Additionally, from 2012 to 2014, Øby attended HEC Paris, where they earned a Grande Ecole degree (Master of Science in Management).

Norfund - The Norwegian Investment Fund for Developing Countries, is owned by the Norwegian Government and serves as an instrument in Norwegian development policy. Norfund contributes to poverty reduction and economic development in the poorest countries through investments in profitable businesses and transfer of knowledge and technology. Norfund invests equity and/or debt capital, always as a financial minority together with partners, international or Norwegian. The main sector for investment is clean energy. Norfund is Norway's biggest investor in microfinance through the Norwegian Microfinance Initiative (NMI), and is also a prominent investor in small and medium sized businesses through regional funds and direct investments. Norfund's geographical focus is on Sub-Sahara Africa, where the fund has three regional offices (Nairobi, Cape Town and Accra). In addition, Norfund invests in selected countries in Asia and Latin America, with regional offices in Costa Rica and Bangkok. Norfund seeks to hire local staff in the regions, and 15 nationalities are represented among the staff.
