Peter Bertels

Peter Bertels has a diverse work experience. Peter started their career as a PhD student at Ghent University, where they conducted research on communication behavior of Java programs in a distributed environment. After completing their PhD, they co-founded Dwengo, a robotics and AI education organization, where they served as co-founder and secretary. Peter also worked at Flanders District of Creativity as a senior project manager and team lead, focusing on stimulating innovation and entrepreneurship. Additionally, Peter worked at BESIX as a senior manager, leading creativity and digital enabling efforts. Peter later became the Open Innovation Coordinator at Stad Gent, where they drove innovation and design thinking. Peter also served as chairman of the board at TICK TACK, and as a member of the board of directors at Studio Globo, an NGO for sustainable development education. Currently, Peter holds the role of CTO and digital architect at CIRCL, a digital construction company that designs homes in minutes.

Peter Bertels completed their education in a chronological manner. Peter obtained a Master of Science degree in Engineering with a specialization in Electronics from Ghent University in the years 1999 to 2004. Following this, they pursued a Doctorate - PhD in Computer Science Engineering at the same university from 2005 to 2010. In 2011 to 2012, Peter attended KU Leuven for a postgraduate program focused on Business Administration, specifically Fundamentals in Management. In 2018, they enrolled in the Vlerick Business School and undertook a program in Growth through Innovation for one year. During the same period, they also studied at the Louvain School of Management, where they completed a postgraduate course in Innovation Management. Finally, in 2018 to 2019, Peter attended the MIT Sloan School of Management to study Innovation of Products and Services, specifically MIT's approach to Design Thinking. Additionally, Peter holds a certification in Insights for Innovation from IDEO U, acquired in May 2015.
