Ed Smith

Ed Smith has worked in the tech industry since 2012. Ed began their career as a Developer at LHCb, where they were in charge of maintaining their research group's interests in data acquisition software used by the whole LHCb collaboration. In 2014, they moved to Winton, where they did research into quantitative trading algorithms for a hedge fund with billions of dollars under management, strengthening their statistical training and gaining deep knowledge of financial markets and financial data. In 2018, they joined Citymapper as a Software Engineer and Tech Lead, where they designed, built and maintained backend systems that power an app used by millions and led engineering and data science projects from product inception to production. Ed Smith is currently a Senior Engineer at Nous, a position they have held since 2022.

Ed Smith attended the University of Oxford from 2010 to 2014, where they earned a Doctor of Philosophy (Ph.D.) in Elementary Particle Physics. Prior to that, they attended the University of Bristol from 2006 to 2010 and earned a Master of Science (MSc) in Physics.
