CIO at NOV

Alex Philips has over 30 years of work experience in various roles. From 1988 to 1997, they worked at Stewart & Stevenson, starting as a Warehouse Supervisor and progressing to become a Digital Illustration Supervisor. In this role, they were responsible for ensuring that digital illustrators met standards and workflow requirements.

In 1997, Alex joined NOV, where they held multiple positions. From 1997 to 2006, they were an IT Implementation Engineer, responsible for installing, administering, and troubleshooting IT infrastructure systems worldwide. Alex also played a role in mergers and acquisitions, migrating users, systems, and data into new architectures.

From 2006 to 2010, they served as an IT Infrastructure Manager at NOV. In this position, they managed teams responsible for global IT infrastructure and acted as the global Chief Infrastructure Architect. Alex also merged newly acquired companies into the existing IT infrastructure.

Alex then became the Director of IT Security at NOV from 2010 to 2014. During this time, they created a dedicated department for IT security and migrated IT security functions from within operational IT departments to the new department. Alex also transitioned the eDiscovery IT portion to the IT security department.

From 2014 to 2015, Alex served as the Chief Information Security Officer at NOV. In this role, they were responsible for overseeing all aspects of information security and the infrastructure that supports information systems and technology. Alex focused on cyber security, IT infrastructure strategy and policy, eDiscovery, PACS, and security during mergers, acquisitions, and divestitures.

In July 2015, Alex became the Chief Information Officer at NOV, a position which they currently hold.

Alex Philips has a Master of Business Administration (MBA) degree from Rice Business - Jones Graduate School of Business, which was obtained between 2011 and 2013. Prior to that, Alex attended Lone Star College from 1990 to 1993, although the degree name and field of study are not specified. Alex also holds an advanced degree from Spring High School, completed between 1986 and 1990. Additionally, Alex has obtained several certifications in AWS from LinkedIn, specifically in cloud concepts, security, core services, and billing and pricing. These certifications were obtained in May 2020.
