Vice President, Clinical Immunology at Novavax

Joyce Plested has extensive work experience in the field of immunology and vaccine development. Joyce currently holds the position of Vice President, Clinical Immunology at Novavax since 2016. Prior to this, they worked at Novavax in various roles including Executive Director, Senior Director, and Director of Clinical Immunology.

Before joining Novavax, Joyce worked at Neomed-Labs Inc. as an Expert Scientist & Group Leader from 2015 to 2016. Joyce also held the position of Expert Scientist & Group Leader at GSK from 2009 to 2015, where they specialized in viral functional immunology and clinical serology.

Joyce's work experience also includes being an Independent Consultant at Novartis in 2008 and serving as an Associate Staff Scientist at Children's Hospital Oakland Research Institute from 2005 to 2008. Prior to that, they worked as an Associate Staff Scientist at CHORI.

Joyce started their career as a Senior Post-doctoral Scientist at the University of Oxford from 1996 to 2005, where they focused on Neisseria meningitidis serogroup B vaccine development. Joyce also worked as a Higher Scientific Officer at the Institute for Animal Health and as a Research Assistant at Sheffield Hallam University.

Joyce Plested obtained a Bachelor of Science degree in Microbiology with Nursing from the University of Liverpool in 1989. Joyce then pursued a PhD in Microbiology at the University of Reading from 1991 to 1994. In terms of additional certifications, they completed an Executive Presence for Women course through LinkedIn in 2019. Joyce also holds a Registered General Nursing (RGN) qualification, although the details of where and when they obtained it are not provided.
