Jon Proesel

Director of IC Design at Nubis Communications

Jon Proesel has worked at five different companies since 2003. Jon began their career as a Programmer at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign in 2003. In 2004, they became an Intern in the digital standard cell design team at IBM Burlington, VT, where they worked on simulation and layout of digital standard cells in 90nm digital CMOS. In 2009, they returned to IBM as a Research Intern, where they researched low-power, high-speed serial link receivers in 45nm SOI CMOS. Their research was published in 2011. From 2010 to 2020, Proesel worked at IBM as a Research Staff Member and Postdoctoral Researcher, respectively, in the Analog and Mixed-Signal circuit design. In 2020, they joined Nubis Communications as the Director of IC Design and Principal Engineer & IC Design Lead. In this role, they are working on high-performance, low-power optical communications with a small, multi-disciplinary team of world-class experts. Jon is leading the electronics IC design while working closely with optics and packaging, and is part of the founding team.

Jon Proesel obtained their B.S. in Computer Engineering from the University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign in 2004. Jon then went on to earn their M.S. in Electrical and Computer Engineering from Carnegie Mellon University in 2008. Jon concluded their academic career with a Ph.D. in Electrical and Computer Engineering from Carnegie Mellon University in 2010.
