Etienne Bernard has a diverse work experience in the fields of software development, machine learning, and statistical physics. Etienne is the Founder and CEO of NuMind, a software company focused on developing machine learning tools and applications. Prior to founding NuMind, Etienne worked at Wolfram, where they held various roles, including Lead Architect and Head of Machine Learning. In these roles, they led a team in developing machine learning functions and models for the Wolfram Language and Wolfram Alpha. Before joining Wolfram, Etienne worked as a Research Associate, where they focused on developing machine learning functions for the Wolfram Language. Etienne also has experience in academia, having worked as a Postdoctoral Researcher at MIT, where they explored their research interests in non-equilibrium statistical physics and perfect-sampling algorithms. Prior to that, Etienne pursued their Ph.D. at École normale supérieure - LPS, where their research focused on algorithms and applications of the Monte Carlo method. Etienne also gained teaching experience as a Teaching Assistant at Universty P.Curie UPMC-Paris6. Additionally, Etienne has conducted research internships at École normale supérieure - LPS, École Normale Supérieure de Cachan - CMLA, and Uppsala University, where they worked on various projects related to diffusion simulations and electron scattering.
Etienne Bernard obtained a Bachelor's degree in Fundamental Physics from Ecole Normale Supérieure de Cachan in 2005. In the following year, from 2005 to 2006, they pursued a Master's degree in Fundamental Physics from the same institution. Etienne then moved on to Pierre and Marie Curie University, where they completed a Master's degree 2 in Theoretical Physics of Complex systems from 2007 to 2008. Finally, from 2008 to 2011, Etienne Bernard attended Ecole normale supérieure and obtained a Doctor of Philosophy (Ph.D.) in Statistical and Computational Physics.
