Michael Stephenson

Michael Stephenson has worked in the field of trust, privacy, and compliance since 2009. Michael began their career as a Case Officer at the Information Commissioner's Office, where they used judgement, intellectual ability and initiative to handle casework under the legislation regulated by the Information Commissioner's Office in line with established strategies, policies and procedures. Michael then moved on to become a Privacy, Security and Compliance Auditor, where they assisted organizations to improve their approach to data management. In 2017, they joined the Rare Genomics Institute as a Privacy Manager and Data Governance Specialist, providing expertise on data governance, cybersecurity, privacy and data protection, data integrity and quality, records and information management, risk management, and compliance. In 2018, they joined Nuna Inc., where they have held the roles of Director of Trust and Privacy, Sr. Compliance Manager and Privacy Officer, Compliance Manager and Privacy Officer, Privacy Officer, and Compliance Analyst - Privacy & Security.

Michael Stephenson completed their International Management degree at The University of Manchester from 2005 to 2009. During this time, they also completed an exchange year at the Rotterdam School of Management, Erasmus University in International Business Administration from 2007 to 2008. In 2018, they attended Upwardly Global. Additionally, Michael Stephenson has obtained a variety of certifications including Fellow of Information Privacy (FIP) from the International Association of Privacy Professionals in 2020, ISO/IEC 27001 Lead Auditor Training from Lloyd's Register in 2016, Certificate in Data Protection from BCS, The Chartered Institute for IT in 2012, Certified Data Privacy Solutions Engineer (CDPSE) from ISACA in 2020, Certified Information Privacy Manager (CIPM) from the International Association of Privacy Professionals in 2019, Certified Information Privacy Professional/Europe (CIPP/E) from the International Association of Privacy Professionals in 2019, Certified Information Privacy Professional/United States (CIPP/US) from the International Association of Privacy Professionals in 2019, and Certified Information Privacy Technologist (CIPT) from the International Association of Privacy Professionals in 2021.
