Will Maddern

Will Maddern is a seasoned professional in the field of robotics, currently serving as Senior Director and Head of Mapping and Localization at Nuro since December 2017. In this role, Will leads engineering and software operations teams to develop navigation solutions for unmanned delivery robots and autonomous vehicles, focusing on transitioning to machine learning-first approaches for large-scale mapping for advanced L2 and L4 platforms. Previously, Will held the positions of Director, Head of Mapping and Localization, and Head of Teleoperation, where responsibilities included accelerating the deployment of unmanned autonomous robots, as well as serving as Staff Engineer and Senior Researcher for the University of Oxford's groundbreaking "RobotCar" project—the first self-driving vehicle to operate on public roads in the UK. Will's academic credentials encompass a PhD in Robotics from Queensland University of Technology and a B.Eng. with 1st Class Honours in Mechatronics from The University of Queensland.
