Jay Gerard

Jay Gerard is the current head of customs at Nuvocargo. Prior to this, they worked as the global customs director for North America at Flexport from September 2016 to March 2022. In this role, they were responsible for the US and Canadian customs operations and filings for both import and export while reducing cost to serve and improving efficiency. Jay led the organization from 25 Customs brokers across 3 offices to over 75 brokers, across 8 offices while increasing our customs flings from 3,000 to over 15,000 per month. This expansion included coaching new leaders, and strategic hiring so they have the ability to promote from within and not compromise our culture. Jay also generated and managed software product ideas and enhancements from concept to creation to implementation. Customers varied from small businesses to Fortune 500 and everything in between (few dozen filings to thousands per year touching on all government agencies including FDA, EPA, Ag, FWS, DOT etc..). Jay also managed external vendors as well as negotiated rates for the Customs org. and oversaw day to day customs operations, drawback, reconciliation, customs compliance, external communications, data analytics for the Customs org. and our supporting functions. This included prioritizing ideas and requests for other groups within Flexport. Jay also created internal and external SOPs for operations, account management, data capture for the customs org., customs compliance group, and our customs advisory group. Lastly, they lead a program to help customers navigate and manage exclusions, resulting in millions of dollars of recouped duties and savings (as well as revenue for Flexport).

Jay Gerard has a Bachelor of Science in Logistics, Supply Chain, Economics from Penn State University and a Certification from Cornell University in Business Strategy.
