Xiaoxuan Sun

Assistant Scientist - Social Impact Assessment at NWMO

Xiaoxuan Sun has a diverse work experience in the fields of geographic information systems and research. They began their career as a Teaching Assistant and Research Assistant at Western University from September 2017 to April 2019, where they conducted land use/cover change analysis and developed regression models using various satellite images and programming languages. They then worked as a Geographic Information System Specialist on a short-term project at O'Connor McLeod Hanna LLP in Oakville, ON in December 2019, utilizing QGIS to analyze aerial imagery and terrain data. From April 2021 to February 2022, they served as a Geographic Information Systems Analyst at Western University, where they developed and maintained a GIS database, geocoded addresses, and designed a COVID-19 surveillance system. Currently, Xiaoxuan is an Assistant Scientist - Social Impact Assessment at the Nuclear Waste Management Organization since February 2022.

Xiaoxuan Sun completed a Bachelor's degree in Geographic Information Science and Cartography from China University of Mining and Technology from 2013 to 2017. Later, from 2017 to 2019, they pursued a Master of Science (MS) degree in Geography from Western University. In addition to their formal education, Xiaoxuan Sun obtained various certifications, including "Transform AEC Projects with GIS and BIM" from Esri in June 2023, "Image in Action" from Esri in September 2021, "Cartography" from Esri in March 2021, "Data Manipulation with pandas" from DataCamp in December 2020, "Spatial Data Science: The New Frontier in Analytics" from Esri in December 2020, "Introduction to Data Science in Python" from DataCamp in November 2020, "Intermediate Python" from DataCamp in October 2020, "Introduction to Bash Scripting" from DataCamp in October 2020, "Introduction to Shell" from DataCamp in October 2020, "Going Places with Spatial Analysis" from Esri in September 2020, and "Do-It-Yourself Geo Apps" from Esri in August 2020.
