Ted Mathas

Ted Mathas is Chairman and CEO of New York Life Insurance Company, the nation's largest mutual life insurer with more than $600 billion in assets under management. The core business includes life insurance, retirement income, investment management, and long-term care insurance. New York Life is the leading provider of life insurance and income annuities in the U.S. Mr. Mathas have been a director of the company since July 2006. He became CEO on July 1, 2008, and was named Chairman on June 1, 2009.

Mr. Mathas is currently serving as chair of the American Council of Life Insurers for the second time in his career. He also sits on the boards of the American Museum of Natural History, the Partnership for New York City, and the Law School Foundation at the University of Virginia.

Mr. Mathas graduated with an A.B. from Stanford University, with distinction, in 1989. He received a J.D. from the University of Virginia in 1992, where he was a member of the Virginia Law Review and the Order of the Coif.
