Ivan Oransky

Distinguished Journalist In Residence, Arthur Carter Journalism Institute

Ivan Oransky is an accomplished editor and educator, currently serving as the Editor in Chief of The Transmitter since its relaunch in 2023, after initially joining Spectrum in 2020. Oransky has been a Distinguished Journalist In Residence at New York University's Arthur Carter Journalism Institute since 2002, where medical reporting is a focus. As a co-founder of Retraction Watch and founder of Embargo Watch, Oransky has contributed significantly to discussions around scientific publishing integrity. In addition, Oransky serves as a Special Advisor on Scientific Publishing for the Simons Foundation, and holds a position as a Founding Editorial Advisory Board Member at MedCentral. Previously, Oransky has held various leadership roles with the Association of Health Care Journalists and has worked with major publications such as Medscape and Stat News. Oransky holds a Doctor of Civil Laws (Hon.) from The University of the South, an MD from New York University, and a cum laude BA in Biology from Harvard University.
