Julio Avalos

Julio A. is an experienced executive with a robust background in technology and law. Currently serving as co-CEO and board member at Observable since September 2019, and as co-founder and advisor at Shades since April 2021, Julio A. also holds a position on the board of directors at Merico. Previously, Julio A. was instrumental in GitHub's growth as Chief Strategy, Business, & Ops Officer and General Counsel from December 2012 until September 2018, helping to lead the company through its acquisition by Microsoft. Earlier experience includes serving as corporate counsel at Yelp prior to its IPO and as a managing associate at Orrick, Herrington & Sutcliffe LLP. Julio A. holds a JD from Columbia Law School and a Bachelor's degree in English and Philosophy from the University of Florida.
