Shelly Immel

Founder, former President, Owner, CFO at Obsidian Learning

Shelly Immel has over 25 years of experience in the learning and development field. Shelly began their career in 1991 as a Writer, Trainer, Project Manager, and Operations Manager at DACG where they gained knowledge in technical writing, training development, project management, team building, financial management, staff development, succession planning, and customer relationship building. During their time at DACG, they also gained foundational understanding of exploration and production in the Energy sector. Shelly was part of the high-trust, high-results management team that helped grow the branch to 50+ consultants with consistent profitability.

In 1998, Shelly founded Obsidian Technical Communications, where they served as President, Owner, and CFO. At Obsidian, they develop custom interactive learning programs ranging from experiential team training to self-serve web-based microlearning nuggets.

In 2016, Shelly joined Authentic Houston as a Facilitator and Founding Leadership Team Member.

Shelly Immel's education history includes a Class 47 Senior Fellow from the American Leadership Forum (ALF) in Service Leadership from 2019 to 2020, a BA in Sociology (with honors) and German double major from Southwestern University from 1986 to 1990 where they graduated as Valedictorian, and a year at Gymnasium auf dem Asterstein in Koblenz, Germany from 1985 to 1986. Shelly has also obtained additional certifications, such as a Permaculture Design Certificate from the Permaculture Institute of North America - PINA in 2018, an Organic Vegetable Gardening Specialist from Urban Harvest in 2016, an Authentic Relating Facilitator Training from Authentic Houston in 2016, and an International Level 1 Instructor Certification in Kundalini Yoga from the Kundalini Research Institute in 2002.
