Michael Hoenig has a long and varied work experience. Michael has been working in the field since 2003. Michael began their career as a Translator/Editor at Hueber Verlag in 2003, where they were responsible for compiling a new German-English dictionary using state-of-the-art database technology (XML). Michael then moved to Transversal in 2004 as a Translator/Tester. In 2006, they joined Jagex as a Translator/Tester, where they were part of the German launch team for RuneScape, a popular MMORPG. Michael was in charge of problematic translations. In 2007, they worked as a Beta Tester/Researcher at Golden Web Foundation. From 2008 to 2018, they worked at the Gemini Observatory, where they held the roles of Science Operations Specialist and Data Analysis Specialist. In 2017 and 2018, they also worked as a Lecturer at the University of Hawaii at Hilo. Since 2019, they have been a Senior Scientist and Astronomer/Software Engineer at Oceanit.
Michael Hoenig obtained a BSc Honours (1st class) in Physics with Astrophysics from the University of Sussex between 1993 and 1996. Michael then went on to obtain a PhD in Astronomy from the University of Cambridge between 1996 and 2003. In 2014, they became an American Mensa Member.
