Eric Burger

Eric Burger is a distinguished Research Professor of NextG Security and Research Director of the Commonwealth Cyber Initiative at Virginia Tech, with a focus on electrical and computer engineering as well as public and international affairs. Concurrently, Eric serves as a Non-Executive Director and Vice Chair of the Board at Public Interest Registry and is a Board Member of the Foundation for Resilient Societies. Eric contributes to Rampart Communications and Ocient as an Advisory Board Member, providing insights into secure wireless communications and hyperscale data solutions respectively. Previous roles include Research Professor of Computer Science at Georgetown University, Senior Technology Advisor and Chief Technology Officer at the Federal Communications Commission, and Assistant Director at the White House Office of Science and Technology Policy. Eric’s educational background includes degrees from MIT, KU Leuven, and the Illinois Institute of Technology, along with doctoral education from George Mason University.
