Dr. Hugo Quiroz-Mercado is a retina specialist expert in diabetic retinopathy and retinopathy of prematurity for 8 years he served as Director of Ophthalmology Service at Denver Health Medical Center. With over 25 years of practice experience, Dr. Quiroz-Mercado has held previous appointments as the Director of the Retina Department and Chief of the Experimental Surgery Laboratory at Luis Sanchez Hospital for the Prevention of Blindness, as well as a professor of Ophthalmology at the Facultad de Medicine Universidad Autonoma de Mexico. He specializes in treating patients with severe retinopathy and helping them cope with the impending complications. He has participated in multiple clinical and preclinical research collaborating with several Universities like Stanford and University of Colorado.  He has published more than 100 peer reviewed papers and 5 books on vitreo-retinal diseases and founder of PACORES (Pan-American Collaborative Retina Research Group).

Dr. Quiroz-Mercado completed his medical degree at Facultad de Medicine Universidad Nacional Autonoma de Mexico, and completed his postgraduate residency at Luis Sanchez Hospital for the Prevention of Blindness in Mexico City. Dr. Quiroz-Mercado then furthered his training by completing fellowships in Vitreo-Retinal Diseases at APEC in Mexico City and Schepens Eye Research Institute in Boston.

Dr. Patrick D. Yoshinaga received the Doctor of Optometry degree from the Southern California College of Optometry in 1983. He has enjoyed working in private practice since 1987 and has served as Director of Contact Lens Services at the University of Southern California Doheny Eye Institute. He worked at the Doheny Eye Institute from 1984 to 2000 with special emphasis in the areas of contact lens fitting of post-surgical patients and for the treatment of ocular disease, and low vision rehabilitation.

Dr. Lars Freisberg is an ophthalmologist in Tulsa, Oklahoma. He received his medical degree from Philipps University of Marburg Faculty of Medicine and has been in practice for more than 20 years. Dr. Freisberg is board certified in Opthalmogy in the United States, Germany and Norway. Dr. Freisberg specializes in diabetic retinopathy. In addition to retinopathy, some of the more common retinal conditions Dr. Freisberg treats are macular degeneration, retinal detachment, and flashes and floaters. However, he’s always willing to dig in to less typical cases to find the best solution. “Unusual situations that require cooperation with other colleagues are always a challenge. I find calling upon the retina community to find the best possible solution for my patient to be very rewarding.”

Jordan Boss, B.S. also is a second-generation owner and CEO of LAMAR SYSTEMS, LLC which is a 30-year-old innovative camera/drone products company. Lamar was one of the first companies in the world to integrate an HD imager in an outdoor remote-controlled camera system. Lamar began installing outdoor HD camera systems in 2004.  Jordan is an engineer and a technical expert in developing cameras products and camera systems. Recently, Jordan invented the CityView™ Ecosystem, which is a Connected Camera Network (CCN) protocol that permits television network broadcasters to OneClick™ a multi-city camera menu in order to share live video feeds throughout an array of cities, local stations and locations without prior setup. Jordan has led the camera industry by introducing the first HD and 3D, & 360° cameras for Outdoor Remote-Control Systems. His “SkyBoss™” branded camera systems have been installed for clients such as: ABC, NBC, CBS, Time Warner, iHeart Communications, FOX, and NASA.

Freeman is an award-winning innovator with over 150 patents filed, with over 60 patents issued in the Sectors of: Multi-Channel Streaming Mobile Video, Augmented Reality Eyewear, RFID Location Base Tracking, Nano-Chemicals, and Ultra-Hight Efficiency Muxcapacitor® Transformerless Power Supplies. Freeman also won the 2015 and 2016 Frost & Sullivan Best Practices Awards for Best Product to Power the IoT while CEO of Semitrex a company Freeman founded based on his Switch Cap transformerless power supplies invention which provides over 95% efficiency.

While President of PC Designs, Freeman invented the first streaming mobile video technology in 1994 which garnered him a two TV Emmy Awards. This revolutionary mobile video technology was licensed by virtually all cell companies throughout the 1990's and acquired by Samsung who asserted the patents in the Apple vs. Samsung II litigation, where Mr. Freeman testified. In that Appsung litigation Freeman was identified as developing the "forerunner" of Smart Phones because his team was the first to combine the connectivity of cell phones with the intelligence of computers. His streaming mobile video was the basis for the 802.11(n) MIMO protocol.

Freeman also served a stint in the Major Motion Picture Industry as a Sr. Executive Vice President for a leading Hollywood Company, 1492 Studios, Inc.

Dr. Michael A. Albert, Jr., M.D. is a vitreoretinal surgeon with [Retina Consultants of Alabama](/org/retina-consultants-of-alabama), P.C. at the University of Alabama at Birmingham Callahan Eye Hospital and is an Associate Professor with the UAB Department of Ophthalmology.  Dr. Albert received his undergraduate degree from the [University of Virginia](/org/university-of-virginia), graduated with honors from the West Virginia University School of Medicine, and completed his residency and surgical fellowship with the UAB Department of Ophthalmology.  He is a recipient of the Senior Honor Award from both the American Academy of Ophthalmology and the American Society of Retina Specialists for having authored and co-authored numerous journal articles, for having participated in several clinical trials, and for having presented scientific platform presentations and instructional courses at state, national, and international ophthalmology societal meetings.  His areas of practice include the diagnostic evaluation, medical treatment, and surgical management of diseases of the vitreous, retina, macula, and choroid.  Dr. Albert also enjoys the privilege of training ophthalmology residents and vitreoretinal surgical fellows at his institution.

As a super KOL, Dr. Link specializes in early stage investing in medical device and bio-pharma companies focusing on the ophthalmic sector having received a B.S., M.S. and Ph.D. in mechanical engineering at [Purdue University](/org/purdue-university). He is a founder and Managing Partner of [Flying L Partners](/org/flying-l-partners) and he is a co-founder and Managing Director of [Versant Ventures](/org/versant-ventures), and a pioneer and leader in the highly successful ophthalmology venture category. Bill is Co-Chair of the popular Ophthalmology Innovation Summit (OIS) which has fostered innovation by connecting thousands of industry and clinical leaders each year. Over Dr. Link’s investing career, he has overseen exits and public offerings totaling more than $7B in combined enterprise value and was also named to the 2011 Forbes “Midas” list.

Leading the Ocutrx Scientific Advisory Board as chief scientific advisor, Dr. Link will use his well-honed skills advising on the scientific merit of medical technology and products of Ocutrx and providing strategic advice to the Board regarding cross-sector emerging science and technology issues and trends.

Mitchael was a software lead on the team which invented Streaming Mobile Video in 1994 which became the foundation for 802.11(n) MIMO protocols. For its efforts the team won two 1994 Academy of Television Arts and Sciences Emmy Awards for technology contributions to the television industry. The technology was licensed to virtually all of the cell companies which existed during the 1990s and afterwards the technology and patents were sold to Samsung. Mitchael served as a Sr. VP of manufacturing for PC Designs, Inc. from 1988 through 2003 when the company was a competitor of Dell, Apple and Gateway and was one of the major suppliers of computer products to the State of California. Mitchael was the first to put together the technology for a string of "Surfcam's" in the early 1990's which streamed video over AOL. In the 2000’s Mitchael created complex software solutions for St. John’s Medical Center and developed RFID Location Based Software over which he holds three US patents with co-inventor Michael H. Freeman. Mitchael has over 30 patents issued with dozens of additional patents pending.

Dr. Linda A. Lam MD, MBA is the Vice Chair of Satellite Clinical Affairs and an Associate Professor in Ophthalmology at the USC Keck School of Medicine. She attended [Brown University](/org/brown-university) where she graduated with honors in Neuroscience. Dr. Lam received her medical degree with honors at Cornell University Medical College, where she also performed a research fellowship on retinal cell physiology. She completed her residency at the Cole Eye Institute at Cleveland Clinic, before her medical and surgical vitreoretinal fellowship at Georgetown University Hospital and the Retina Group of Washington. She graduated with honors from the executive MBA program at the USC Marshall School of Business.

Dr. Diane Whitaker, O.D., is the Division Chief of Vision Rehabilitation and Performance at Duke University Eye Center, Assistant Professor of Ophthalmology, Duke School of Medicine, Clinical Program Director, Duke Sports Vision Center. Her past experience includes specialty low vision training at the Lighthouse for the Blind in Houston, Texas and providing vision rehabilitation services at the UNC Department of Ophthalmology from 2001-2006. In 2015 she was named an Innovator and one of the Most Influential Women in Optical. In 2017, she received the InSightful Visionary BVI Champion Award and served as the Medical Chair for the Foundation for Fighting Blindness Triangle Vision walk which successfully raised over $120,000 to fund research to prevent blindness.

Dr. Thomas Finley, M.D. is a Vitreoretinal Surgeon who practices with the Tulsa Retina Consultants in Tulsa, Oklahoma. He graduated from the University of Oklahoma Medical School, and completed his graduate practice with the University of Alabama UAB Hospital, having completed his undergraduate degree from [Cameron University](/org/cameron-university). Dr. Finley was board Certified in Ophthalmology in 2011. In 2015, Dr. Finley and Dr. Lars Freisberg came together to create Tulsa Retina Consultants. Today, it’s the region’s largest group of retina specialists with over 15,000 patients.

Victoria McArtor holds a Master of Fine Arts, is a former professor for the [University of Tulsa](/org/university-of-tulsa), and is co-founder of a poetry and collaborative arts nonprofit, MUSED. When she’s not drinking latte’s or late vintage champagne, McArtor gives her time by serving on the board of directors for the Black Wall Street Arts Gallery and the Oklahoma Center for Poets and Writers. As Chief Communication Officer for Ocutrx, McArtor acts as a liaison between engineers and investors, as well as helping to simplify this complex technology into stores that evoke emotion amongst potential partners and future patients.
