Murtaza Shaikh, PhD, is an experienced professional specializing in online safety, human rights, and conflict prevention. Currently serving as the Online Safety Principal for Ofcom, Murtaza leads regulatory approaches to illegal harms, including online hate and terrorism. Murtaza also holds positions as a Special Advisor to the UN Special Rapporteur on Minority Issues, focusing on conflict prevention and hate speech. Previously, Murtaza co-directed Averroes, a think tank dedicated to British Muslim policy issues. Education includes a PhD in International Human Rights Law from SOAS University of London and a recent participation in the Rising Public Leaders Programme at the University of Oxford.
