Andrew MacDonell

Senior Policy Manager at Ofgem

Andrew Macdonell has a diverse work experience spanning several industries. Andrew started their career in 2010 at The University of Glasgow, where they worked as a PhD Student and Post-Doc until 2015. Andrew then transitioned to EPSRC, taking up the role of Energy Portfolio Manager from 2016 to 2017. Here, they managed the energy storage, hydrogen, and fuel cells research portfolio, engaged with stakeholders, and awarded funding to successful projects.

After EPSRC, Andrew joined UK Research Office (UKRO) in 2017 as a European Advisor. In this role, they provided guidance and support to UK universities regarding EU funding applications and administration. Andrew also served as the National Contact Point for the European Research Council, helping UK applicants maximize their chances of success.

In 2020, Andrew moved to UK Research and Innovation, where they took on the position of Senior Policy Manager. Andrew held this role until 2022, helping shape and implement policies related to research and innovation.

Currently, Andrew is working at Ofgem as a Senior Policy Manager starting in November 2022.

Andrew Macdonell attended the University of Glasgow from 2005 to 2014, where they pursued a Master of Science (MSc) degree in Chemistry with Medicinal Chemistry.
