Derek Breslin has a diverse and extensive work experience spanning various government and non-governmental organizations.

In 2007, they began their career as a Parliamentary Analyst at DeHavilland before moving on to the Foreign and Commonwealth Office in 2008, where they held roles as a Policy Analyst in the Policy Unit and later as an Assistant Private Secretary/DG Finance.

In 2011, Derek joined the Scotland Office as a Policy Adviser, providing policy advice and analysis on Scottish politics to the Secretary of State and other Scotland Office Ministers. During this time, they focused on foreign affairs and transport issues in light of the 2014 independence referendum.

Continuing their career in government, Derek joined the Department for International Development (DFID) in 2012. Derek held various roles within DFID, including Policy and Parliamentary Officer for the Afghanistan team, where they represented DFID Afghanistan to Ministers, non-governmental groups, and across Whitehall. Derek also served as the National Security and Defence Policy Manager, leading DFID's cross-Whitehall engagement on national security and contributing to strategic defense and security reviews.

In 2018, Derek took on the role of Team Leader for the Ebola Response, where they led a London-based team responsible for coordinating activities across HMG and providing support to country offices affected by the outbreak. Derek also served as an International Policy Manager for DFID Yemen, leading on policy coordination with international partners and managing UK support to the UN Verification and Inspection Mechanism (UNVIM).

Derek joined the Cabinet Office in 2019 as the Head of Devolution Policy, responsible for shaping and implementing policies related to devolution.

Most recently, Derek has assumed the role of Head of Market Stabilisation Team at Ofgem, starting in October 2022.

Throughout their career, Derek has demonstrated strong leadership, coordination, and policy development skills, contributing to various government initiatives and international collaborations.

Derek Breslin completed their undergraduate education from 2002 to 2006 at The University of Edinburgh, where they earned a Bachelor of Arts (Hons) degree in Politics and Social Policy. In 2004 to 2005, they also participated in an exchange program at the City University of Hong Kong, focusing on Politics, Social Policy, and Public Administration.
