Matthijs Aler has a diverse work experience in the financial industry. Matthijs began their career at BinckBank in 2001 as a Team Leader Equity Research, responsible for equity research, market updates, and stock recommendations. Matthijs also represented BinckBank on public television and radio for market trends and mergers/acquisitions. In 2003, they became the Head of IFA Sales at BinckBank, a role they held until 2006. From 2007 to 2009, Aler served as the Managing Director of BinckBank France, overseeing the setup and launch of their activities in the country. In 2010 and 2011, they were the Director of Private Clients at BinckBank.

Aler's other notable work experience includes their role as the Chief Commercial Officer at Ohpen from 2012 to 2018. In 2018, they took on the role of CFO/COO at Ohpen, and in 2019, they became the CEO of the company.

Additionally, from 2012 to 2016, they worked as a Director at ROBEIN vermogensspecialisten.

Matthijs Aler's education history begins with their elementary school education at Schoolvereniging Wolters, which they completed from 1982 to 1988. Following that, from 1988 to 1995, they attended 1e VCL where they earned their high school degree. During this period, they studied subjects such as Maths, Economics, foreign languages, geography and history. Finally, from 1995 to 2001, they pursued further education at Erasmus University Rotterdam, obtaining their MSc degree in Business Administration.
