Director of Mechanical Engineering at Oklo

Liz Porter is the Director of Mechanical Engineering at Oklo. Liz previously worked as a Mechanical Engineer at Apple from July 2017 to June 2020. During their time at Apple, Liz was the Display Engineering Program Lead for the Apple Watch from October 2018 to May 2020. In this role, they worked with the industrial design team to architect prototypes for future Watch display products. Liz also drove mechanical & cross-functional investigations to identify engineering risks for early Watch display product concepts. Liz is also a co-inventor of a radical new concept for integration of the display in Watch ecosystem. Additionally, Liz coordinated and delivered weekly large-scale (~70 people) presentations within Apple to disseminate new product information and collect feedback on program direction and engineering decisions. Liz also traveled independently to vendors and factories in Asia to assess capabilities and provide on-site failure analysis support. Prior to their role as Display Engineering Program Lead, Liz was a Display Engineer for the iPhone from June 2017 to October 2018. In this role, they developed and tested the display architecture for the 2018 iPhone product. Liz also created drawings to communicate design intent within Apple and with our vendors. Liz also identified opportunities for design improvement to facilitate manufacturing and to survive user-testing. Additionally, Liz designed robust testing (coupon level, FEA, testing fixtures) to validate and inform design changes. Liz also collaborated with cross-functional teams to design the display within the constraints of the iPhone ecosystem.

Liz Porter obtained a Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology.

Liz Porter reports to Jacob DeWitte, CEO & Co-Founder. They work with Patrick Everett - Director of Thermal Engineering, Caroline Cochran - Co-Founder & COO, and Marcie Haber - Director of Congressional Affairs.
