J.R. Smith

J.R. Smith is a partner at Evolution Equity Partners focused on growth stage technology investments in information security, enterprise software and consumer. Prior to joining Evolution, he was Chief Executive Officer of AVG Technologies where he was responsible for strategy and operations and leading the company to an IPO in 2012 on the New York Stock Exchange. Mr. Smith is considered to be a thought leader in the areas of security, privacy and data protection and has authored several books on these subjects. Prior to AVG he was CEO of several software companies including Telecom Solutions Group, a pan-European network deployment and telecommunications software development company he founded in 1997 whose clients included Vodafone, Nextel, Orange, T-Mobile, Telefonica, Nokia and Ericsson. Mr. Smith began his career in Seattle, Washington with PNC, which evolved to become the publicly listed VoiceStream, later acquired by T-Mobile.
