Soumo Karar has a diverse work experience, starting as an interior designer at Athena Concepts in 2012. Soumo then worked as an interior designer at Cityneon Holdings in 2013 and also as a Lasalle Student Ambassador at LASALLE College of the Arts from 2010 to 2014, where they represented the college at national and international events. Soumo later joined Maxus as an industrial designer and marketing consultant from 2014 to 2015, where they designed wearable technology, handled interior design projects, and worked with clients such as Fiat, Glaxo Smith Kline, Loreal, and Nestle. Soumo then co-founded Provolv in 2015, a sports technology brand focused on cricket, where they served as a co-founder and product designer. After that, they worked as an interior designer at Genius Loci from 2014 to 2015, where they handled overseas residential projects, pavilion design, and furniture design. Soumo joined McKesson in 2019 as a UX designer and is currently working at Ontada since 2020, initially as a user experience designer and now as a senior user experience designer. At Ontada, they have designed a system map of user touchpoints, created a UX architecture for a next-gen EHR, and contributed to the development of a companion app for doctors.
Soumo Karar earned a Bachelor of Arts (B.A.) degree in Interior Design from Goldsmiths, University of London, where they studied from 2010 to 2014. During the same period, they also obtained a Diploma in Interior Design from LASALLE College of the Arts. Prior to their undergraduate studies, Soumo completed their ICSE and ISC Board Exams in Science at The Heritage School from 2006 to 2009.
After their undergraduate studies, Soumo pursued a Master of Science (MS) degree in Industrial and Product Design at ArtCenter College of Design from 2016 to 2018. Soumo further expanded their knowledge in entrepreneurship by attending UCLA Anderson School of Management in 2018, focusing on Entrepreneurship/Entrepreneurial Studies.
In addition to their formal education, Soumo Karar obtained several certifications to enhance their skills and knowledge. Notably, they completed the Design Leadership program at the Industrial Designers Society of America (IDSA) in December 2021. Furthermore, they acquired certifications in various subjects such as Raising Startup Capital, Supply Chain Management Fundamentals, Manufacturing Strategy, Rapid Prototyping for Product Design, Edge Animate Essential Training, 3D Printing Project: Designing a Replacement Part, Surfacing with SOLIDWORKS, and Design for Manufacturing (DFM) from institutions such as Lynda.com and Dragon Innovation between 2014 and 2015.
