Leonardo Sempertegui is the General Counsel for the Organization of the Petroleum Exporting Countries (OPEC), a position held since 2018, where they lead efforts to support member countries in energy-related policy and legal areas. With a professional background spanning 20 years in the energy and extractive industries, Sempertegui has authored the book "Principles of International Energy Transition Law," published by Oxford University Press. They have also served as an adjunct professor at Georgetown University Law Center, teaching law related to the international activities and energy transition for the energy sector. Sempertegui holds an Executive MBA from the University of Oxford and a Master of Laws from The University of Texas at Austin, obtained with a Fulbright scholarship.
