Giulio Starace

Giulio Starace is a Research Engineer at OpenAI since November 2023, focusing on model capability evaluation as part of the Preparedness team and contributing to the development of PaperBench. Previously, Giulio held a part-time researcher position at the University of Amsterdam, specializing in the cross-lingual adaptation of large language models. Experience also includes serving as a Research Engineer at the European Southern Observatory, where forecasting of astronomical seeing was advanced through machine learning methods, and as a Machine Learning Engineer at Video.io, where functionality for abstractive summarization and real-time captioning was implemented. Giulio began a career in software engineering as an intern at the European Southern Observatory, optimized ticket systems, and conducted research internships at JAXA, focusing on satellite visibility and galaxy characterization. Academic qualifications include a Master of Science in Artificial Intelligence from the University of Amsterdam, and a Bachelor of Science in Natural Sciences from Durham University, supplemented by relevant summer and high school education.
