Ran Ding

Ran Ding is a seasoned engineering professional currently serving as a Member of Technical Staff at OpenAI since August 2025. Prior to this role, Ran held various positions at Meta from January 2020 to August 2025, including Director of Engineering, where significant contributions were made to machine learning and product teams comprising over 70 engineers. Notable achievements at Meta include leadership in critical business areas such as Instagram Explore and Home Feed Ranking, as well as the Threads Relevance project. Earlier, Ran was a Senior Engineering Manager at Compass, establishing the first machine learning group and facilitating an IPO. Experience also includes a role as an Applied Scientist at Amazon Web Services, focusing on core components of Amazon Kendra, and founding Aperio.AI, Inc. Ran earned a PhD in Electrical Engineering from the University of Washington and a BS in Electrical Engineering from Nanjing University.
