Richard Johnson

National Security Risk Mitigation Lead

Richard Johnson is currently the National Security Risk Mitigation Lead at OpenAI and serves as a Visiting Lecturer of Government at Claremont McKenna College. Previously, Richard was the Senior Director for Fuel Cycle and Verification at the Nuclear Threat Initiative from 2018 to 2021 and served various roles at the U.S. Department of State, including Deputy Lead Coordinator (Acting) for Iran Nuclear Implementation. Richard's extensive experience also includes positions at the National Security Council, the U.S. Embassy in Beijing, and the United States Department of Defense. Richard earned an MPA in International Relations from Princeton University and a BA in Government and Asian Studies from Claremont McKenna College.
