Yi Wang

Yi Wang is an accomplished professional in machine learning and infrastructure, currently serving as a Member of Technical Staff at OpenAI since September 2025. Previously, as a Senior Principal Engineer at Motional, Yi Wang led the development of state-of-the-art data and ML infrastructure, significantly enhancing training data preparation and model evaluation systems. At Cruise, Yi Wang was a founding engineer in distributed training, achieving remarkable efficiency improvements and contributing to PyTorch alongside Meta. Earlier experience includes roles at Facebook and Google, focusing on optimizing distributed training and developing machine learning infrastructure and applications. Yi Wang holds a Ph.D. in Computer Science & Engineering from The Ohio State University and a BS in Software Engineering from Wuhan University.
