Michael Thompson

Michael Thompson has a diverse work experience in the field of engineering and verification. Michael currently holds the position of Director of Engineering, Verification Task Group at OpenHW Group since November 2019. Prior to this, they worked as an ASIC/FPGA Verification Consultant at Covrado starting from July 2017. Michael also served as an IC Verification professional at Rianta Solutions Inc. from January 2017 to June 2017.

Michael'sextensive experience includes a significant role at Huawei, where they were a Senior Manager, IC Verification. Michael played a crucial role in building and managing a successful verification team from scratch at Huawei's Canada Research Center. During their tenure from January 2009 to January 2017, they effectively utilized leading-edge verification methodologies to ensure first-time-right silicon.

Before joining Huawei, Michael was an ASIC Verification Manager at Tundra Semiconductor. From November 2003 to January 2009, they led both local and remote verification teams, introducing advanced verification strategies such as constrained-random and coverage-driven methodologies.

Michael also worked as an ASIC Verification Engineer at Neterion (S2io) from January 2003 to November 2003. Prior to this, they served as an ASIC Verification Manager at Tropic Networks from 2001 to 2003. Michael started their career as an IC Design Manager at Mosaid from January 1999 to August 2001.

Before venturing into verification roles, Michael gained valuable experience as a Hardware Engineer at Nortel Networks from 1990 to 1998. Michael also worked as a Member of the Scientific Staff at Bell-Northern Research during the same period.
