John Parker has over fifteen years of experience in the photonics industry. From 2022 to present, they have been a Principal Engineer, PIC Architecture at OpenLight. From 2016 to 2022, they were a Senior Staff Hardware Engineer, Si Photonics at Juniper Networks, where they worked on Si-Photonic transceiver validation testing, calibration, and control algorithms. From 2015 to 2016, they were an Optoelectronic Device Scientist at Aurrion. From 2010 to 2015, they were a Photonic Device Scientist (previous position: Device Engineer) at Freedom Photonics, where they co-authored four awarded research proposals with >$1M funding and designed new photonic products for emerging markets. From 2007 to 2010, they were a Graduate Student Researcher at the University of California, Santa Barbara, where they conducted research in photonic integrated circuits. From 2007 to 2008, they were a Technical Staff Associate at The Aerospace Corporation and a Technical Consultant at Irell & Manella. In 2006, they were an Engineering Intern at Exotic Electro-Optics, where they investigated damage and defects occurring from polishing large sapphire windows for use in the Joint-Strike-Fighter and conducted accelerated lifetime tests of optical and electrical components.
John Parker attended Phillips Exeter Academy from 2000 to 2003. John then went on to Harvey Mudd College and earned a BS in Electrical Engineering in 2007. Following that, they attended the University of California, Santa Barbara and earned a Master's degree in Electrical and Computer Engineering in 2009. Finally, they completed their PhD in Electrical and Computer Engineering at UC Santa Barbara in 2012.
