Larry Deignan

Head of Solution Architecture at Openmind Networks

Larry Deignan has extensive experience in the telecommunications industry, with a career spanning over three decades. Larry began their career at Vodafone, where they worked as a Telecoms Engineer, responsible for the design, planning, engineering, and testing of the company's core network in the UK. Larry then joined E-Plus Mobilfunk as a Consultant in System Technology, where they focused on network design, vendor evaluation, contract management, and product development.

In 1996, Deignan joined Esat Digifone as the Head of Telecoms Engineering. In this role, they led the design, planning, engineering, and implementation of the company's launch core and value-added service networks. Larry also played a key role in the introduction of prepaid and prepaid/SMS services.

After four years at Esat Digifone, Deignan moved to O2 Ireland, where they held various positions. As the Head of 3G Network Program, they led a multi-million Euro program aimed at fulfilling O2 Ireland's 3G license commitments. Larry also served as the Head of Technology Account Management and the Technology Lead for TETRA bid preparation, among other roles. As the Head of Strategy & Architecture, they led a team of technology consultants responsible for technology strategy across network, IT, and value-added services domains.

Deignan then joined The Now Factory as a Telecommunications Consultant, where they focused on compiling the company's response to a global Request for Quotation (RfQ) and managing the relationship with a tier 1 European customer.

In 2006, Deignan returned to O2 Ireland as the Head of Network Transformation Program. In this role, they led the Enigma Program, a multi-million Euro program aimed at transforming O2 Ireland's network from a Nortel/Nokia supplied network to a single Ericsson supplied network. Larry also established a collaborative partnership with Ericsson.

Deignan later joined Everything Everywhere Ltd (now known as EE) as a Senior Programme Manager to the Diamond Network Programme. Larry played a crucial role in consolidating, transforming, and integrating the mobile networks of Orange UK and T-Mobile UK into a single network, including the deployment of LTE.

In 2013, Deignan joined Flint Consulting Ltd as an Independent Consultant, conducting a consultancy assignment focused on researching the infrastructure services market in Ireland.

Their most recent role was at Openmind Networks, where they started as the Head of Solution Architecture and later took on the role of Service Director/Consultancy Program. In these positions, they led the solution architecture team and was responsible for the quality and costing of technical proposals. Larry also managed a group customer program, negotiating technical requirements with multiple countries and overseeing the implementation of cloud-based messaging domains.

Throughout their career, Deignan has demonstrated strong leadership skills, a deep understanding of technology, and a track record of successfully managing complex projects and programs in the telecommunications industry.

Larry Deignan completed their Bachelor's Degree in Applied Physics and Electronics at the University of Galway from 1983 to 1987. Larry then pursued a Higher Diploma in Education at the same university from 1987 to 1988. In 1999 and 2000, Larry enrolled in the Dublin Business School, where they obtained a Diploma in Business Studies.
