Clive Selley

CEO at Openreach

As CEO of Openreach Limited, Clive is responsible for leading the UK’s largest digital infrastructure company. Openreach employs 32,000 people and supports more than 620 communications providers to connect their 30 million customers throughout the country.

Clive is one of Europe’s leading telecoms and digital infrastructure experts. He has more than 30 years’ experience in the sector, including senior roles across the BT Group in engineering, technology innovation and implementation, and network operations. He has a deep understanding of the complexity and challenges of building and managing telecoms infrastructure, and a proven track record of constantly improving customer service performance.

Previously Clive served as chief information officer for BT Group and as the chief executive of its multi-billion pound technology division. A common thread running through his career is the deployment of new technology which has underpinned the UK’s communications infrastructure. Under his leadership, Openreach is now building a new, more reliable and future-proof “full fibre” broadband network for the UK. Our ambition is to upgrade 15 million homes and businesses by the mid-2020s and ultimately the majority of the country.

Clive has been responsible for pioneering faster and more efficient broadband technologies and deployment methods for Fibre to the Premises infrastructure. He also continues to drive innovations which can deliver better connectivity for the final few percent of the UK that doesn’t currently have access to decent broadband.

Clive was educated at Eltham College and the University of Bristol, and has a degree in electrical and electronic engineering. He also holds a master’s in management from Lancaster University.
