Head of Asia Pacific (APAC) at OpenSolar

Maaike Gobel has extensive experience in the energy and sustainability sector. Maaike is currently the Head of Asia Pacific (APAC) at OpenSolar, a solar design and sales application company. Prior to this role, they served as the Country Manager for Australia & New Zealand and Head of Partnerships at OpenSolar.

Before joining OpenSolar, Maaike worked as a Senior International Expert on Sustainable Energy Investments & Financing at CEERD - Centre for Energy Environment Resources Development. Maaike also served as a Business Creation Manager at InnoEnergy, where they supported start-ups and SMEs in the energy sector.

Maaike has experience in investment management as well, having worked as an Investment Manager at EDFIMC under the Electrification Financing Initiative (ElectriFI). Maaike supported renewable energy investments, particularly in rural and underserved areas.

Additionally, Maaike has held policy and strategic roles, including Senior Policy Analyst on Energy and Earth Resources Strategic Policy at the Department of Economic Development, Jobs, Transport and Resources. Maaike also worked as a Manager for Southeast Asia and the Pacific at the Renewable Energy and Energy Efficiency Partnership (REEEP).

Earlier in their career, Maaike represented the International Affairs of the Clean Energy Council and its members. Maaike worked on developing export opportunities for Australian clean energy businesses and represented the industry at international events. Maaike also served as a Policy Officer at the Victorian State Department of Innovation, Industry and Regional Development and a Policy Advisor on the United States of America at the Netherlands Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

Overall, Maaike Gobel has a diverse range of experience in different sectors of the energy industry, from policy and international affairs to investment and business development.

Maaike Gobel's education history begins with their obtaining a VWO degree from Revius Lyceum Doorn in 1998. Maaike then pursued a Master's degree in Policy Development, Communication & Organisation from Vrije Universiteit Amsterdam (VU Amsterdam) between 1999 and 2003. In 2005-2006, they pursued their Master's in Advanced Interdisciplinary European Studies with a focus on EU as a world actor from the College of Europe in Natolin.

In 2012-2013, Maaike Gobel completed their Graduate Certificate in Energy Studies from the International Energy Centre. In 2017, they attended the Frankfurt School of Finance & Management and obtained a Certified Expert in Climate & Renewable Energy Finance degree, specializing in Finance and Financial Management Services. Additionally, they pursued energy efficiency studies at the College of Energy Efficiency, Energy University, Schneider Electric in 2015.

Maaike Gobel also holds additional certifications in project finance modeling and modeling with the FAST Standard, obtained in 2017 from F1F9.
