Jonathan Birnbaum is an experienced professional with a diverse background in finance and entrepreneurship. Jonathan is currently the Founder & CEO of OpenYield, a modern bond marketplace aimed at simplifying retail bond investing. Prior to this, Jonathan worked at Domain Money as an Advisor and later as the COO, where they played a key role in launching a unique investment platform that combined crypto and equity investing. Before that, they co-founded Bells Ventures, an angel syndicate focused on investing in fintech and marketplace startups.
Jonathan also worked at SoFi as the Business Lead - Head of Crypto, SoFi Invest, overseeing the rapid growth of the crypto platform. Jonathan was the Head of Fixed Income Execution at Bridgewater Associates, where they led a team of traders responsible for implementing and improving fixed income trading execution strategies.
In addition, Jonathan has experience as a fintech entrepreneur, having explored various app concepts and worked on a disruptive financial technology platform. Jonathan also had significant roles at Morgan Stanley, including as the US Credit COO and Vice President, specializing in optimization of capital allocation and front office tools. During their time at Morgan Stanley, they also served as a trader on the Emerging Markets desk and co-managed the EM structured notes franchise. Before entering the finance industry, Jonathan gained early experience as a Summer Analyst at Morgan Stanley, a Winter Extern in Investment Banking at JPMorgan Chase & Co., and a Summer Intern at the US Securities and Exchange Commission.
Jonathan Birnbaum attended Great Neck North High School from 2000 to 2004, where they obtained a High School degree. Jonathan then enrolled at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) in 2004 and graduated in 2008 with dual Bachelor of Science degrees. Jonathan majored in Electrical Engineering and Computer Science (6-2) at the MIT School of Engineering and also pursued a Bachelor of Science degree in Management Science with a Finance Concentration at the MIT Sloan School of Management.
