Nigel Smart is a Professor at COSIC (KU Leuven) since January 2018, with extensive experience in academia and industry. In addition to the professorship, Nigel serves as Chief Academic Officer at Zama since April 2022 and holds various advisory roles at companies including Astran, Confidencial Inc, Dfns, Enveil, Optalysys, Cosmian, and previously Cape Privacy. Nigel co-founded Unbound Security in July 2013, a company focused on securing cryptographic keys through Multi-Party Computation, which was acquired by Coinbase in January 2022. Nigel obtained a PhD in Pure Mathematics from the University of Kent and a BSc in Mathematics from the University of Reading.
