Matthew Watson has a diverse work experience spanning multiple roles and industries. Matthew is currently working as the Chief of Engineering at Opteran, where they oversee the company's engineering operations. Prior to this role, they served as the VP of Engineering at Opteran and played a key role in developing artificial bio-inspired brains for autonomous machines. Before joining Opteran, Matthew worked at The University of Sheffield, where they held various positions, including Research Engineer, Postdoctoral Research Associate, and PhD Researcher. During their time at the university, they developed a novel robot locomotion system called the Collinear Mecanum Drive. Additionally, Matthew has experience in freelance robotics development through their company, Watson Robotics Ltd.

Matthew Watson attended The University of Sheffield from 2010 to 2014, where they pursued a Master of Engineering degree in Electronic and Electrical Engineering. Matthew then continued their education at the same institution from 2015 to 2019, completing a Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) in Robotics and Control.
