Seb James has extensive work experience in various roles and industries. In 2001, they worked as a Development Engineer at Magnetic Systems Technology Ltd, where they focused on electronic and embedded software engineering for vehicle management computers and motor control systems. From 2003 to 2006, they served as the Director at Embedded Software Foundry Ltd, providing embedded software engineering consultancy services to clients in industries such as printing, automotive, power, and education. In 2006, they joined William Matthew Ltd as the Technical Director, responsible for delivering network appliances and virtual appliances for printing applications to customers in the insurance and retail sectors. Seb worked at William Matthew Ltd until 2014. From 2014 to 2015, they held the position of Research Associate at The University of Sheffield, and from 2014 onwards, they also worked as a Postdoctoral Research Associate at the University of Sheffield, focusing on computational neuroscience research, specifically models of decision making and biomimetic muscle control for robotics. In 2022, Seb James started working as a Senior Research Engineer at Opteran.
Seb James started their education journey in 1992 at The University of Manchester, where they pursued a Bachelor's degree in Physics with Study in Europe. Seb completed this program in 1996 with an MPhys (Hons) degree. Following that, from 1996 to 1998, Seb attended Colorado State University, where they obtained a Master of Science degree in Physics. In 1998, they joined the University of Cambridge for their PhD in Experimental Physics, which they completed in 2001. Additionally, in 1994 and 1995, Seb spent some time in Innsbruck, although no specific degree or field of study is mentioned for this period.
