McKay Johnson

Sr. Staff Mechanical Engineer at Optimal Design

McKay Johnson has extensive work experience in mechanical engineering, spanning over 20 years. McKay started their career as a Mechanical Engineering Intern at Pratt & Whitney in 1999. Later, they worked as a Senior Staff Mechanical Engineer at Motorola from 2000 to 2012.

In 2012, McKay joined Geochord as the Lead Product Developer, where they worked until 2013. McKay then moved on to Ignite USA, where they served as a Senior Mechanical Engineer from 2013 to 2015.

McKay also worked at Motorola Mobility (a Lenovo Company) as a Principal Staff Mechanical Engineer from 2015 to 2018. During this time, they reviewed product designs for improvements and managed small teams for projects.

From 2015 to the present, McKay has been the Chief Engineer at GoBQ Grills, where they continuously review supplier options and improves manufacturability while reducing product cost.

Since 2018, McKay has also been involved with Optimal Design. McKay initially worked as a Staff Mechanical Engineer, responsible for the mechanical architecture of VR helmet shells and streetlight attached WiFi access points. In December 2020, they were promoted to the role of Sr. Staff Mechanical Engineer at Optimal Design, where they redesigned VR helmets and trained assembly operators on building streetlight WiFi access points.

Throughout their career, McKay Johnson has demonstrated expertise in mechanical engineering, product development, design improvements, and team management.

McKay Johnson attended the University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign from 1995 to 1999, where they obtained a Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering.
