Chad Mather

Richard C. "Chad" Mather III, MD, MBA is the Chief Medical Officer at Optum Specialty Care, where they focus on value-based transformation in healthcare. Mather serves as the Medical Director of Specialty Practices and Specialist Engagement at Optimal Care and holds positions as Associate Professor of Orthopaedic Surgery and faculty in the Department of Population Health Sciences at Duke University School of Medicine. Their research centers on decision science and healthcare transformation, aiming to improve patient care through organizational, financial, and technological advancements. Mather previously held roles including Vice-Chairman of Practice Transformation in the Duke Department of Orthopaedic Surgery and President of the North Carolina Orthopaedic Association. They earned a BA in Economics from Miami University and both an MD and MBA from Duke University, where they also completed their residency in orthopaedic surgery.
